The Story Behind The Construction of Hotel Everest View
Hotel Everest View was opened in 1971 along the ridge of Syangboche by mountaineer Takashi Miyahara.
When Takashi Miyahara saw the panoramic views of mountains from the top of Syangboche ridge in the spring of 1968 for the first time, he immediately fell in love. The view was really breathtaking.
Now the view was imprinted on his heart and dreamed of building a world class hotel with the mountain view from each room at the same location.
“Every single piece of the hotel had to be carried in by hand or brought in by helicopter as there are no roads leading up to the hotel.”
Building a Luxury Hotel at an altitude of 3,880m is no small task, even today. And to build during the 60s was really challenging.
Many materials like sliding doors, glasses, solars, blankets, eating utensils were imported from Japan via Calcutta and then transported by the Sherpas on their back.
To complete this project, it took several years and finally Hotel Everest View opened its doors for visitors in 1971.
The hotel was designed by Japanese architect Yoshinobu Kumagaya.
Note: to this day, the hotel is 100 percent staffed by Nepalis, including numerous Sherpas.
