Dudh Kunda lake is a sacred glacial lake at the foot of Numbur Himal (6,959m).

The lake is located at an altitude of 4,560m (14,960 feet) above sea level and lies in Solukhumbu district (Lower Everest Region) of Nepal.

The name of the lake Dudh Kunda means “Milky Lake” as the water of this lake is as white as milk.

The lake has a great religious importance in Hindu, Buddhists and Kirat communities.

And it is locally known as “Shoring Yul Lha” or protector of Solu.

To reach the Dudh Kunda lake it takes 2-3 days trek from Taksindu, and the whole trek can be completed in 5-6 days from Kathmandu.

The Dudh Kunda trek takes you through authentic sherpa villages, oldest buddhist monasteries, rhododendron and pine forests, high altitude glacial lakes. While trekking you’ll get the best views of the world’s tallest mountain Mt. Everest and other himalayan range including Makalu, Rolwaling, Kanchenjunga, Nuptse (7,861 m) and Lhotse (8,516 m), Thamserku, Kusum Kangguru, Mera Peak, Numbur (6,959m), Karyolung (6,511m), etc.

The Dudh Kunda region is also home to exotic wild animals like Mountain Thar, Snow leopard, pheasants, bears and jackals.

How to Reach Dudh Kunda Lake?

  1. Take a flight to Phaplu from Kathmandu or take buses/jeep which leaves early in the morning (5:30-6:00 A.M.) from Chabahill, Kathmandu. You can also take your personal vehicle via Siddhicharan Highway (Kathmandu – Dhulikhel – Khurkot – Ghurmi – Okhaldhunga – Salleri – Phaplu) to Phaplu.
  2. Then either take another local bus (if you flew or took a public vehicle from Kathmandu) or drive to Taksindu if you’re on a personal vehicle.
  3. Start Trekking to Dudh Kunda Lake from Taksindu via Kamo Dada and Saharsha Beni. It can take 2-3 days to reach Dudh Kunda Lake and 5-6 Days to complete the whole trek.

Alternatively you can also trek via Pikey Peak or Junbesi to Dudh Kunda Lake.
