Origin of the Name
The inspiration of the name, “Hotel at the End of the Universe “, stems from a remarkable encounter experienced by the founder Mr.Mark, a Canadian-American tourist, was staying at Mahankal Lodge, which was owned by the founder. On December 24th, 1981, while Mr.Mark was visiting Kathmandu for Christmas Eve Festivities, an unusual event unfolded.
As Mr.Mark descended from Mahankal Hill. the founder observed an eerie phenomenon: a dense black fog cascading down from the adjacent hill. This mysterious sight, coupled with the persistent howling of a dog, captured the attention of the founder and the lodge staff. Suddenly, the founder felt a powerful force push him from behind, causing him to stumble and fall from the garden to the terrace below.
After three inexplicable shoves, the founder managed to regain his footing. Bewildered, he scanned his surroundings but found no trace of the strange occurrences, not even the dog. Feeling shaken, the founder retreated to his home in Bhaktapur. That same night, tragedy struck as one of the lodge cottages succumbed to a devastating fire, reducing it to ashes.
On December 25th, Mr.Mark and the founder returned to Nagarkot with authorities to file a police report regarding the loss. Experiencing sympathy for the unfortunate incident, Mr. Mark took photographs of the charred remains of the cottage against the backdrop of the majestic Himalayas. Before bidding farewell, he handed the founder a slip of paper bearing a prophetic message: “The Restaurant at the End of the Universe, a new name for your place which will bring you luck.”
And so, guided by this serendipitous, the establishment was christened “The Restaurant at the End of the Universe”, a name imbued with a sense of destiny and fortune.

It is 15 km from Shankhu City and 20 km from Bhaktapur City. And the Tribhuvan International Airport is 32 km away.
How to get to Hotel End of the Universe?
By Road:
You have an option to go by road if you want to explore more places in the nature. You can take a vehicle (private or public) then reach Sallaghari, Bhaktapur then take left turn reach Kamal Vinayak Chowk or take local bus/4 wheeler from nearby vehicle station “Nagarkot Bus Park” to Nagarkot.
Taking a Local Bus from Kathmandu to Nagarkot
Take the bus from Kathmandu, Ratna Park to Bhaktapur. The bus stop will be Kamal Binayak. This bus runs every 1-3 minutes. The bus runs from 5:00 am until 7:00 pm each day. And tt takes about 1 hour.
In Bhaktapur (Kamal Binayak), you have to switch buses and take the bus to Nagarkot. This bus runs every 35 minutes or so, and runs from 5:00am until 5:00pm. It takes about 1 hour to get to Nagarkot from Bhaktapur. Of course, travel times are dependent on traffic and weather.
From the bus station here in Nagarkot, it is about a 7 minute walk to our hotel. You will have to walk towards Mahankal Temple.
Charter a Helicopter:
Hotel End of the Universe is 40-45 minutes from airport, and an hour form Kathmandu. For a quick and scenic option, you can charter (book) a helicopter ride from Tribhuvan International Airport that takes just 7 minutes.
