ACE Hotels, founded by Mr. Basanta B. Sakya, transformed a regular house into a ten-room hotel in the heart of Lazimpat, once called Lodging Path. Surrounded by embassies, this area was a diplomatic enclave. The Ambassador, established in 1961, quickly became the preferred accommodation for expatriates due to it’s strategic location.
“In 1963, during Queen Elizabeth’s inaugural state visit, King Mahendra desired her travel in his Chevrolet Impala from Sheetal Niwas in Maharajgunj to the British Embassy in Lazimpath. However, the Hotel’s premises obstructed the car’s path and the sharp turn to the embassy. This marked the first royal interaction with the hotel grounds. Consequently, the ten-room bungalow underwent expansion, becoming a forty-room hotel celebrated for its outstanding service and a devoted clientele.”
“In 1986, during Queen Elizabeth’s second visit, King Birendra choose a gardener approach- a six-horse-drawn carriage.
